Ndombele hits yet another speed bump in quest to find form away from Spurs

Tanguy Ndombele started for Napoli against Spezia last night but was hooked at half-time after yet another poor first-half display.

Ndombele, who completed a loan move to Napoli with an option to buy for £25m (The Times), was handed just his second start of the season by Luciano Spalletti on Saturday.

The midfielder would have been hoping to have a better outing than his full-debut against Lecce a couple of weeks ago, where he was withdrawn at half-time after a poor display.

Unfortunately, the on-loan Spurs star suffered the same fate again against Spezia, with the 25-year-old making way for Stanislav Lobotka at the interval after struggling to impact the game.

Napoli edged to a 1-0 win thanks to Giacomo Raspadori’s 89th-minute winner, with the result taking the club to the summit of the Serie A table.

However, it turned out to be another disappointing night for Ndombele, who had already come under criticism for his performances at Naples before yesterday (Napoli Piu).

Spurs Web Opinion

Ndombele’s time at Napoli seems to be heading the same way as his loan spell at Lyon during the second half of last season.

Spurs will be hoping that the midfielder is able to demonstrate his quality once he gets more up to speed with Serie A and Spalletti’s system.

Should he fail at Napoli too, then shifting him off the wage bill next summer could prove impossible.
