Some Tottenham Hotspur fans have taken to Twitter to share their reaction to Jose Mourinho’s team selection for this afternoon’s fixture.

Spurs kick off their Premier League campaign with a tough test against Everton, who have spent millions in the summer on the likes of James Rodriguez, Allan and Abdoulaye Doucoure.

Everton have won just one of their last 19 Premier League games in London (D7 L11), winning 2-0 at West Ham in March 2019. Only Newcastle (79) have ever lost more Premier League away games in the capital than the Toffees (78).

Spurs have handed competitive debuts to Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty while fellow summer signing Joe Hart is named one the bench ahead of Paulo Gazzaniga.

Giovanni Lo Celso is not in the squad due to a hamstring injury, however there is a place on the bench for Tanguy Ndombele despite playing only 45 minutes during pre-season.

Here is what some fans had to say.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. How bad was Ndombele when he came on. He kept giving the ball away and looked leggy, when he had only played 5-10 minutes. Bergwijn just never got to run at anybody which is unforgiveable. Mourinho seemed tactically inept today. None of his changes worked. The starting line up was wrong. I think Davinson Sanchez has to play, as while he has his faults, we need his pace. Dier and Alderweireld as a pair, with Davies as well, are a triumvirate of snails. Winks and Hojberg also looked terrible together. Moura did what he does, work with no end product. I was just surprised by Son and Kane. Neither looked that interested. Service was poor. Son is ok at corners, but not free kicks. To not have someone on them capable of good delivery hurt us further. When Eriksen used to miss games it was obvious how crap the team looked. Now he us permanently gone, not replacing him looks unforgivable. Striker, centre back, add a playmaker to that, when we have almost no.money to spend and teams don’t want Aurier or Rose, like we don’t want them either. There wasn’t a single positive today, other than no mistakes from Lloris.
