‘Need to re-sign him’ – Some Spurs fans want midfielder back at the club

Marcus Edwards is continuing to go from strength to strength since leaving Tottenham Hotspur to join Vitoria Guimaraes last summer, with the winger’s quality once again on display with a stunning solo effort goal against Maritimo on Sunday.

Edwards has been one of the most impressive attacking talents in Liga NOS this season, registering nine goals and nine assists in all competitions so far in his first season in Portugal (transfermarkt.com).

Reports have indicated that Spurs have been so impressed with the 21-year-old’s performances this season that they want to bring Edwards back to North London this summer.

The club are said to be considering taking advantage of the 50 per cent sell-on clause they have in their agreement with Guimaraes, to sign the youngster on the cheap (Desportivo de Guimaraes via Record).

The pacy and skilful wide man is certainly doing his reputation no harm with his performances, as he capped off a brilliant run with a great finish against Maritimo, to give Guimaraes a 1-0 win.

Some Spurs fans were in awe of Edwards’ quality on the back of the terrific striker and urged the club to bring him back to the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

I can understand why people are sceptical of the suggestion that we might want to bring Edwards back, particular after the way things ended between the winger and Spurs last summer.

However, given our financial circumstances at the moment, I can certainly see why it would be tempting for Tottenham to take advantage of the 50 per cent sell-on clause to essentially sign Edwards for half his market value.
