‘Never did at Tottenham’ – Pundit surprised by what Ndombele did vs West Ham

Clinton Morrison praised Tanguy Ndombele for busting a gut to get into the box against West Ham after the midfielder helped Lyon salvage a 1-1 draw against the Hammers.

Ndombele returned to London for the first time since leaving Spurs on loan in January as Lyon travelled to the London Stadium for the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final tie on Thursday.

The away side were presented with a golden opportunity to win the game when Aaron Cresswell was sent off towards the end of the first half.

However, it was David Moyes’ side who struck first in the early stages of the second half through Jarrod Bowen.

Ndombele then dragged the Ligue 1 side back level, starting the move by playing an inch-perfect pass out wide before getting into the box to slam home the ball from close range.

Morrison insisted that we never saw the Frenchman get into the box in that fashion during his time at Tottenham.

The pundit told BBC Sport (21:34 – 07/04/22): “Ndombele makes that goal and gets in the box to finish it.

“He plays a brilliant incisive ball to Tete, who does ever so well and squares up Ben Johnson.

“Ndombele does what he never did at Tottenham, making the box and sticking it into an empty net.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Spurs fans should get carried away with Ndombele’s performances for Lyon.

The 25-year-old’s talent has never been in doubt but he was given more than his fair share of opportunities at Spurs and was shunned by different managers.

I do not think the midfielder has a future at Tottenham under Conte but the Spurs hierarchy will be delighted to see him do well and bump up his price ahead of the summer.
