Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that they have come to an agreement with Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F for the transfer of midfielder Mousa Dembele. The move certainly doesn’t come as a surprise as the midfielder’s current contract with the club only ran until the end of the season which would have seen him depart the club on a free transfer.
Furthermore, Dembele had more than his fair share of injuries in recent months and there were doubts if his body was capable of copping up with the rigours of Premier League football. Even though a move was inevitable, Spurs fans will be extremely sad to see him go given how important a player he has been for the team in the last few seasons.
In his six and a half years in North London, Dembele has become a bit of a cult hero as he enthralled fans with his trademark runs, where he would ghost past players like they weren’t there.
After the announcement, there has been an outpouring of emotions on social media from Spurs fans, which indicates how highly rated he was at the club. Here are some of the reactions from some Spurs fans on hearing of Dembele’s exit:
Thanks for everything @MousaDembele, you have been an absolute joy for #thfc fans to watch over the years. ? pic.twitter.com/yGrvkUj76y

Mousa Dembele isn’t the kind of player you’ll see come through everyday. And these players know that. No hesitation in their answers. Exceptional talent. pic.twitter.com/tI8vr5KTRO

Sad to see him go, but his body just can't cope with the @PremierLeague anymore. One of the most gifted players I've ever seen in a Spurs shirt and a nightmare on his day.
Thank you, @MousaDembele ?? #COYS pic.twitter.com/OxPQykS0Xe

A Rolls Royce Midfielder, a giant of a man with a classy touch on the ball. Can ghost past players like they were not even there.

What a player @mousadembele was for us. 250 appearances and 10 goals. He was so strong on the ball and he left opponents standing with that trademark dip of the shoulder. Thank you Mousa and good luck.

Farewell and good luck, @mousadembele In more than 70 years watching football I've never seen one quite like you for unorthodox ball control. You slalom through defences. Thanks for the entertainment. @SpursOfficial #COYS
