‘Never was an option’ – Guardiola responds to Kane links to Man City

Pep Guardiola has claimed Harry Kane ‘never was an option’ for Manchester City to sign in last summer’s transfer window after seeing his side fall to a late 3-2 defeat to Tottenham.

Kane starred for Spurs during a hectic fixture at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening, which saw the visitors escape with three points deep into second half stoppage-time.

The England captain scored twice and saw a goal disallowed for offside, with his second tally proving to be decisive moments after Riyad Mahrez dispatched an equalising penalty for the hosts.

The performance will undoubtedly leave a bitter aftertaste for City, who chased Kane extensively in the transfer window throughout the summer (The Guardian).

While the 28-year-old failed to secure a move to the Manchester club, Guardiola has since sought to bring an end to talk of the goings-on ahead of the season.

He said (via Football.London): “It never was an option so let’s forget [Kane rumours last summer]. It’s not necessary today to show his quality and his goals today, all of the UK knows that.”

Kane’s performance was five-star and he was pretty much flawless throughout. He demonstrated so many reasons why City went after him in the summer, but also why Spurs were so keen to keep him on board. Much has been said about his goal record this term, but he has started to kick it up a notch in recent weeks.
