Neville hails ‘exceptional’ manager rumoured to be at top of Spurs wishlist

Gary Neville has lavished praise on the work Brendan Rodgers has done at Leicester amidst reports linking the former Liverpool boss to the Tottenham job.

Rodgers has ruled himself out of running for the Spurs job but previous reports indicated that the North Londoners have still not given up hope of landing him.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that despite the complications surrounding swooping for the Foxes boss, he remains at the top of the club’s shortlist of candidates to replace Mourinho.

Some sources have suggested that Daniel Levy is prepared to make Rodgers the second-highest-paid manager in the Premier League after Pep Guardiola if he takes the Tottenham job.

However, it remains to be seen whether that would be enough to convince the 48-year-old to leave the King Power Stadium, with Leicester on course to qualifying for the Champions League.

Neville lauded the work Rodgers has done at Leicester and named him as one of the contenders for the Manager of the Season award.

The former Manchester United defender told Sky Sports: “Brendan Rodgers has done brilliantly and you do have to balance off the budget and the players these managers have.

“Rodgers and Sean Dyche are exceptional managerial performances – and David Moyes at West Ham has been exceptional too.

“But I would still go with Guardiola or Tuchel because to win the Champions League and the league in the same season takes some doing.”
