Arsenal welcomed their latest signing to the club yesterday as Gabriel Magalhaes joined in a £23.14m deal from Lille (BBC).
The 22-year-old central defender comes in to sure up the Gunners’ defence ahead of the new season as Mikel Arteta looks to put his own stamp on the squad.
The young defender broke into the Lille first-team squad during the 2016/17 season but didn’t make a real impact until 2018/19 when he made 17 appearances. Last campaign, the Brazilian defender impressed across 34 games for Lille (Wikipedia).
Despite the fact that both Tottenham and Chelsea have outshone Arsenal in the Premier League in recent seasons, Gabriel took the chance to take a dig at both clubs upon signing his contract.
The new Gunners man tweeted ‘London Is Red’ yesterday, much to the enjoyment of a number of Arsenal fans on Twitter.
In actuality, the last time Arsenal finished above Chelsea and Spurs came in the 2015/16 season, five years ago.
