Juventus are keen to sign Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Tottenham Hotspur and the Italian side have reached out to the North London club again to enquire about how to make a move happen.
Since Ange Postecoglou‘s arrival at Tottenham, a number of established players have found themselves pushed to the fringes of the squad.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is one of those players. The Danish midfielder had been a regular starter under Antonio Conte and Jose Mourinho previously, but has largely had to settle for a place on the Spurs bench under his new manager.
The 28-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from North London in the summer, but remained with Postecoglou’s squad. Despite his bit-part role under the Australian, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has suggested Spurs will not entertain offers in January.
That is largely because Pape Sarr and Yves Bissouma are heading to AFCON next month, while Rodrigo Bentancur is out injured.
Juventus pushing ahead for Hojbjerg move
However, that has not stopped Juventus stepping up their interest in Hojbjerg ahead of the January transfer window.
According to CalcioMercato, Hojbjerg is considered a “concrete target” for the Turin club next month. It is thought “new contacts” between Juventus and the player’s agent have now taken place “in recent days.”
However, there is a stumbling block. It is believed Juventus want to sign Hojbjerg on loan, but Spurs are not willing to open up to that option at this time.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no way we will be letting Hojbjerg leave in the January window. With Bissouma and Sarr heading off for AFCON duties, and Bentancur injured long-term, Hojbjerg and Skipp are the only two central midfielders we will have available next month. Unless we manage to sign one, maybe two, other midfielders, Hojbjerg will be staying put.
