The Tottenham Hotspur social media team reserved special praise for Serge Aurier following the 2-0 win against Arsenal yesterday afternoon.
The Ivorian was named in Jose Mourinho’s starting eleven for the North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a back four along with Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Sergio Reguilon.
Aurier was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham in the summer after AC Milan had a bid for the former PSG player rejected and a move failed to materialise (Sky Sports).
Summer signing Matt Doherty had featured in six of Tottenham’s opening ten matches of the Premier League campaign (transfermarkt) with his arrival having seemed to have had a positive impact on Aurier’s performances.
Pundits including Gary Neville have previously been highly critical of Aurier’s defensive abilities (Sky Sports), however the 27-year-old has looked much more assured when called upon this season including during yesterday’s outing in N17.
Some Spurs fans took it upon themselves to praise Aurier’s efforts with a few calling for him to sign a contract extension.
Unbelievable the last few weeks

I cannot describe how happy I am that he has turned it around.

Been a big critic of Serge down the years, think decision making at times has been outrageously costly but last 3 BIG games he’s pulled out superb performances today being the best!

When Spurs signed Doherty, this is the type of performance I was expecting from him. Aurier has stepped up big time instead of worrying about the competition. Well done, Serge!

He's been massive all season. Being called out on Amazon Prime by Mou seems to have had a hugely positive impact on his game. Let's hope Bounty follows suit.
