New Fulham signing thought Eriksen would flop at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur midfield maestro Christian Eriksen is now one of the best players in his position in world football, however, he has not always been held in such high regard.

Eriksen joined Spurs in 2013 as a skinny young attacking mid from Ajax.

His former Ajax teammate Ryan Babel has admitted that he had his doubts over his friend’s move to the Premier League.

The Prem is famed for being an extremely high-paced, aggressive, and strong league, usually not one for a player who is scared of getting his foot stuck in.

Babel and Eriksen played together for Ajax through the 2012/13 season, and the now-Fulham man was sceptical of the Tottenham transfer.

He believed Eriksen would be too slight for English football, and his dislike of challenges would count against him in the long run.

Fast forward to 2019 and Eriksen is one of the hardest working players in the entire League, and certainly not afraid of getting stuck in when needed.

Babel said (The Sun): “I was very sceptical in the beginning because we played together for a year at Ajax in 2012.

“Of course Christian was amazing technically but, physically, he didn’t want to be in challenges.

“For him to go to England, I was sceptical about it.

“But so far he has amazed me — he is an incredible player who is much stronger than he was before.”
