New Spurs signing Destiny Udogie opens up on his Premier League desire

Destiny Udogie has admitted that he tries to model his game on the likes of AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez and Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies.

Udogie joined Spurs in the summer for a £15m fee on the back of his breakthrough season at Udinese and he was immediately loaned back to the Serie A club (SkySports).

The left wing-back has continued to impress in the first part of the 2022-23 campaign, having featured 12 times across all competitions, with three goal contributions to his name so far (Transfermarkt).

Italian publication Messaggero Veneto (24/11/22 as relayed by Sport Witness) revealed last month that Spurs do have the option of recalling the 20-year-old in January but the North London club are not expected to take up the option.

Ahead of his potential arrival in English football next season, Udogie has now spoken about his admiration of the Premier League.

The left-back told Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by Football Italia): “I love the Premier League, it’s a competitive league, like Serie A, but the level is higher. For now, I watch it on TV to improve.

“I’ve always spoken English, it’s the first language my parents taught me. We also speak Italian, French, Spanish and Portuguese in the dressing room.”

Udogie also spoke about the players he looks up to, expressing his admiration for Real Madrid legend Marcelo, along with Hernandez and Davies.

The 20-year-old added: “I used to be a Milan fan, but when I started playing on the left I fell in love with Marcelo. I like Theo Hernandez, same as Alphonso Davies.”

The fact that Udogie studies the Premier League closely and speaks English, should make his transition to life at Tottenham easier. However, I would not be surprised if Spurs decided to loan him out again next season, potentially to a Premier League club, so that he can continue playing regularly.
