New teammate of Spurs loanee claims he doesn’t know much about him

Villarreal midfielder and former Spurs man, Etienne Capoue has admitted that he does not know much about Tottenham loanee Giovani Lo Celso.

Lo Celso secured a move to the Villarreal until the end of the season on deadline day (Sky Sports), having struggled to make his mark since joining Spurs in 2019.

The 25-year-old will be looking to rekindle some form on his return to La Liga, having enjoyed a successful campaign with Real Betis in 2018/19.

While his debut for the club could come this Sunday with a trip to former employers Betis, he may have to introduce himself to at least one of his teammates, namely Capoue.

The former Spurs midfielder revealed last year that, outside of playing, he does not watch football and views it simply as a job he needs to fulfil (The Athletic).

As such, Capoue has admitted that he does not know a great deal about Argentina international Lo Celso but says Villarreal will have completed the acquisition knowing he will contribute to the team going forward.

In an interview with Marca, Capoue said: “I’m sorry, because I don’t watch much football and I don’t know anything about him [Lo Celso].

“But if Villarreal has signed him, that is because he has a lot of quality. Surely we’re going to do better things on the pitch with him. He’s been to big clubs and he’s an international.”

There is an expectation that football players must live, eat and breathe the game, but there are odd occasions where they want to switch off from it away from the pitch. Capoue has come out as one of them and he should get to know more about Lo Celso as they spend more time together over the next few months.
