Newcastle coy over Tottenham striker talk

Robbie Keane

Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew gave little away when asked about any interest in signing Robbie Keane.

The Spurs striker is widely expected to depart White Hart Lane in January either on loan or in a permanent deal.

Pardew said: ‘Any player of that sort of quality that becomes available, we would be interested in. Whether it is possible to bring them to the club for a number of reasons, we will have to see.

‘But I am not going to go into individuals because we have had so many names thrown at us and so many of our players leaving, it is ridiculous to name them all, so I will pass on that one.’

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. So long as he leaves, I don’t care where he goes. Newcastle, Birmingham, Wolves, West Ham – they are all welcome to have him. Financially it’s stupid to have a player earning 65,000 pounds a week and doesn’t even make it to the bench. Let him go and free up a space for new recruits. Even if we couldn’t get anybody in, we’ve already got Van der Vaart who’s practically a striker
