Newly promoted Premier League side set to challenge Spurs for striker’s signature

The Telegraph have revealed that Fulham are set to challenge Tottenham in their pursuit of Callum Wilson this summer.

It emerged soon after Bournemouth’s relegation was confirmed that Spurs were eying a move for Wilson as Harry Kane’s back up for next season (Mirror).

Although the Lilywhites are said to be facing plenty of competition for the striker’s signature (Sky Sports), it was claimed this week that Jose Mourinho had personally called the England international to convince him to come to North London (Football Insider).

However, The Telegraph now suggests that Wilson is not at the top of Mourinho’s wish list as the Spurs boss would prefer more of a target man who can serve as a plan B from the bench.

The report reveals that Scott Parker is intent on adding Premier League experience to his frontline after winning promotion to the top-flight and has identified Wilson as a target.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa are also said to be keen on snapping up the 28-year-old this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is not clear if Wilson is one of our main striker targets or whether he is just a fallback option in case we cannot get the likes of Milik. Not only does he boast of a really good record in the Premier League but he is also homegrown and likely to be available for a bargain fee. So, I would be extremely surprised if Spurs are not considering Wilson this summer. The question is whether the 28-year-old would want to take a step up to Tottenham even though he might not play every match or whether he will prefer to move to Villa or Fulham where he will be the main man up front.
