‘Next level’ – Pundit urges Spurs to make ‘no brainer’ signing of PL midfielder

Paddy Kenny has urged Tottenham Hotspur to go after Ruben Neves this summer if the Wolves star is for sale.

Neves has progressed steadily since he joined Wolves back when they were still in the Championship.

The Portuguese international has now established himself as one of the most consistent midfielders in the Premier League, with 90min reporting last week that he now wishes to seek a new adventure away from Molineux.

The report claimed that Spurs were one of several Premier League clubs to be keeping tabs on the 25-year-old’s situation. In addition, Barcelona have also been credited with an interest in Neves ahead of the summer transfer window (Sport).

Kenny believes that Neves could be a realistic target for Tottenham as long as Antonio Conte is still in charge of the club next season.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper admitted that he is keen to see how the former Porto star would do at the North London club.

He told Football Insider: “If Neves wants to leave Wolves, Tottenham should be looking to do a deal there. As long as Conte stays, they are a club on the up. I think Wolves may have found their ceiling.

“The guy is a quality player, we have all seen the goals he scores and I want to see how would do at a club challenging for the Champions League.

“Barcelona is a pull but if Tottenham come in it means he probably doesn’t have to uproot his entire life. I think he is someone who can take that midfield to the next level so if he can be signed at a decent price, it’s a no brainer.”

Even though Neves has only two years left on his contract with Wolves, he will probably cost upwards of £50m as there is likely to be a lot of interest in the Portugal international’s signature.

Tottenham do not tend to get involved in bidding wars and so, I can see the North London club potentially shifting their attention to the likes of Yves Bissouma or Youri Tielemans.
