‘Nice step for him’ – Bergwijn’s teammate speaks on proposed move to Spurs

PSV defender Denzel Dumfries has given his blessing to teammate Steven Bergwijn over the attacker’s proposed move to Spurs.

Reports in England and Holland on Sunday claimed that Tottenham had turned their attentions to landing PSV Eindhoven star Steven Bergwijn before the close of the transfer window (Daily Mail).

The forward wasn’t named in the PSV side that took to the field against FC Twente this evening, with PSV later confirming that Bergwijn was the subject of interest from Spurs (Sky Sports Chief Reporter Bryan Swanson).

The forward who can play centrally as well as out wide has already notched up five goals and ten assists in the Eredivisie so far this campaign (transfermarkt).

The Mail reports that the Dutch international will cost Spurs a fee in the region of £21 million.

Dumfries has now revealed that he is proud of Bergwijn for earning a big move to Tottenham.

Speaking to Fox Sports about the winger’s transfer (as relayed by Dutch publication AD), the defender said, “Of course it is a big loss for us. For him, it is a nice step that he cannot ignore.”

Dumfries’ statement certainly indicates that a transfer to Spurs is imminent for Bergwijn as the forward would have likely kept his teammates updated over the development. I believe he will be a fabulous addition to the squad given his versatility as he will help provide cover in a couple of attacking positions.
