‘Nightmare game’ – Paul Merson predicts Tottenham vs Bournemouth score

Paul Merson has backed Bournemouth to hand another blow to Ange Postecoglou’s side by holding them to a draw on Sunday.

Spurs will return to home comforts after a disappointing evening in the South Coast but they will come against one of the form teams in the Premier League.

The Cherries, who were named as potential relegation candidates by many pundits at the start of the season, currently sit in the comfort of mid-table and come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on the back of four straight league wins.

They boast of one of the best strikers in the league this season in Dominic Solanke, who has 12 goals to his name so far, and the Englishman will certainly be licking his lips at the prospect of playing against Spurs’ makeshift centre-back pairing of Emerson Royal and Ben Davies.

Will Spurs be able to beat Bournemouth?

Merson has cited Solanke’s form as well as the football that Andoni Iraola’s men have played over recent weeks as the chief reasons why the Cherries will emerge with something from North London.

The former Arsenal midfielder told Sportskeeda: “Tottenham have turned it around in recent weeks and have got some key players back from injuries, but Bournemouth are absolutely flying at the moment, making this one of the most exciting games of the Premier League weekend.

“In fact, this is a bit of a nightmare game for Tottenham, as this is the worst time to face the Cherries. Cristian Romero is out for a month and Micky van de Ven is yet to return from his injury, so Ange Postecoglou’s side might struggle at the back against an in-form Dominik Solanke.

“He has really come into his own and his confidence is sky-high at the moment, but I think interested clubs might wait until the end of the season to take a punt on him. He’s been around for a while and has finally made his mark in the Premier League, so I’m really happen for him.”

Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Bournemouth.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bournemouth will certainly pose a big threat going forward and I agree with Merson that they could score a couple of goals. So, we might need to score three of four to get all three points. We need Son to deliver a big performance in what could be his final game before he jets off to the Asian Cup.
