“Nine points is a great start for us”

Tottenham Hotspur made it three wins out of three after a 2-1 derby victory at West Ham United.

Carlton Cole but the home site in the lead, but goals from former Hammer Jermain Defoe and Aaron Lennon keep Harry Redknapp’s side at the top of the Premier League.

“Nine points is a great start for us,” Redknapp said. “But I wouldn’t even compare ourselves to the ’61 or ’62 team. That was an amazing football team.

“They had Bill Nicholson as manager, Dave Mackay and Danny Blanchflower playing for them. Dave Mackay was like three men, not one.

“We’ve got some good players, but they had a great team and were fantastic. That was a special time in the club’s history, a long time ago. If we are anywhere as good as them, we’ll be OK.”

He continued: “Who knows what we can achieve? I’m not saying we’ll finish in the top four, but we have good quality and we’ll give it a go.

“It could be open this year. Manchester City will certainly be pushing to be a top-four team, and there’s no reason we can’t push.

“We’ve won two away games already this year. If our home form stands up, we’ll be right up there.”

  1. Obviously delighted with another three points, and long may it continue. But i am not going to get carried away, and after only three games we start comparing this team with the 1961 side, wich i find silly to say the least.Hope Harry takes each game at a time and not look beyond that. We are not used to this sort of excitement, and to be honest it has`nt sunk in yet.

  2. Today was nerve racking as Spurs had a few nervous players, who made lots of errors.
King looked clumsy at times, Huddlestone looked like he used to look last season, Modric looked as though he was making his debut, Corluka looked like a Hull player, Keane was unsure at times, BAE looked as though he was going to give away a penalty every time he defended in the box.
Maybe it was me, but I so wanted those 3 points and I thought they were going to capitulate.
Well they didn’t because of LENNON, DEFOE, PALACIOUS, CUDICINI, and BASSONG. They played without fear and kept us in it when their team mates made mistakes or showed nervousness.
I thought West Ham tackled viciously at times and sometimes risked sending off’s. I am worried about Huddlestone as when the going gets tough he disappears. Unfortunately he doesn’t seem up for a scrap. S.A.F. wouldn’t put up with that fear of a fight. Harry needs to get in a skilful, but hard partner for Palacious and I think he is going to buy one before the window closes.
Anyway bring on Birmingham at WHL and get those points on the board.

  3. agreed, although we’ve started brilliantly we have to keep our feet on the ground, in all honesty we played poor today, though if we can play poor and win away at teams like west ham goes to show how far we have come..

  4. Agreed, didn’t think we were at the races today although as stated if we can win and not be on our game away from home then i’ll take it. Joe royle said he hadn’t seen a tottenham team push the ball as well as we did today, thought that was way off the mark, west ham got amongst us and i thought we strugged with carlton cole. Another 3 points though and still improvements to be made! Coys!!!

  5. the great thing about redknapp is he is a realist in his assesment etc…..its great we are top of the league and to enjoy the start but…..the media are great at lifting the bullshit to the highest level then drop you like a ton of bricks……

no one has won anything yet or lost etc it will be a very interesting year for spurs if we can keep the momentum away from home assuming we are difficult to beat at home all year…..
we didnt look totally comfortable today as is the same with all the others if you look at all three games…..

its great to see the lads having a go!

  6. Our midfields should learned how to pass a thru ball to your striker from Cole. What a pass! Deffence splitting pass. Pass of the Year Award for Carlton Cole…………..
