‘No’ – Bayern Munich president asked directly about Harry Kane rumours

Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has denied that the club have discussed Harry Kane’s name but insisted they will continue to be on the lookout for potential attacking additions.

Over the last month, both Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn and head coach Julian Nagelsmann have spoken publicly to the media about the club’s interest in Kane.

Kahn first described the 29-year-old as a ‘top striker’ and admitted that he is ‘a dream of the future’ (Christian Falk).

Nagelsmann added fuel to the speculation when he labelled the England captain as a ‘brilliant player’ and admitted the main problem in signing him would be Spurs’ asking price (90 min).

The print edition of Bild (27/07/22 – as relayed by Sport Witness) claimed a couple of weeks ago that the German club have discreetly expressed an interest in Kane to the striker’s entourage and hope he will be tempted by a move next summer.

However, Antonio Conte has dismissed the speculation, insisting that the striker is ‘very happy’ at the club and ‘totally involved’ with the project (Football London).

In an interview with German publication Abendzeitung, Hainer has now been asked if Bayern are eyeing Kane as a target for 2023 and he responded: “For the time being, we are focused on this summer.

“Now we have a great team with an average age of 25, 26 years. Many players have long-term contracts, the framework is in place, and we can plan the next steps at our leisure.”

When asked if the club have discussed the Tottenham man’s name, the Bayern president said: “No. However, we will continue to keep an eye on the market in general – without being under any pressure to do anything. Our attack is top-class.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Kane does not sign a new contract and decides that his future lies away from Spurs, I do not see him wanting to join Bayern as he clearly has his eye on Alan Shearer’s Premier League record.

If Tottenham do show signs of progress and challenge near the top end of the Premier League this season, I think there is a good chance that Kane will sign a new deal as he has evidently bought into Conte’s project.
