‘No better-suited person’ – Pundit urges Spurs to hand job to former PL winner

Tony Cascarino believes that Vincent Kompany perfectly fits the profile of head coach that Tottenham Hotspur need.

Some sources have reported over the last couple of weeks that Tottenham are looking for a young, up-and-coming manager, who can build a longer-term project at the club on the back of the failed Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte experiments over recent years (beIN SPORTS).

The Guardian reported last week that Kompany is one of the names on the Spurs hierarchy’s wishlist on the back of the impressive work that the Manchester City legend has done at Turf Moor this season.

The Belgian has transformed Burnley into a possession-based, attacking outfit, with the Claretts sitting 13 points clear at the top of the Championship table, having scored 74 goals and conceded just 29 so far this season.

Cascarino believes that the 36-year-old is just the sort of leader Spurs need as he can bring everyone at the club together.

The pundit wrote in  The Times: “Kompany is brave and bold. He does not shy away from challenges.

“But unlike (former Spurs bosses) Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, who were also immensely competitive, Kompany is, above all else, humble.

“What he brings is harmony. He unifies people through his qualities as a leader.

“A manager that respects the club, and puts it first. But also has a real ambition and competitive edge. (That) is exactly what Spurs need.

“There is no better-suited person than Vincent Kompany.”

Kompany’s leadership skills and his temperament have never been in doubt, even during his playing days and he certainly has had an excellent education, given the managers he has played under over the course of his career.

However, the step up from the Championship to a top-six club is a huge one and the 36-year-old would not be able to command the same sort of respect in the Spurs dressing room as he does at Burnely, given his relative lack of coaching experience.
