‘No-brainer’ – Alasdair Gold issues Conte verdict on Tottenham midfield target

Alasdair Gold has revealed that Antonio Conte admires Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat and believes Tottenham’s pursuit of the Moroccan is a ‘no-brainer’ if it is at the head coach’s request.

Sky Sport Italia claim Tottenham have shortlisted Amrabat, 25, as a potential incoming ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

The Guardian reports Spurs remain in talks with Fiorentina to secure an initial loan deal with an option to buy worth €16 million (£13.4m) at its conclusion.

Spurs could see some midfield outgoings this month though, with Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli and Giovani Lo Celso all allegedly put up for sale by Antonio Conte (Sky Sports).

Gold has since revealed the Spurs head coach likes the thought of Amrabat as an incoming to bolster his options in midfield, and feels the club should meet the Italian’s request to bring him to North London.

He said on his YouTube channel (26/01/22, 15:19): “Conte apparently likes him.

“There’s potential of a loan deal with an option [to buy]. If you’re bringing in a loan player to cover the midfield area and that’s what Conte’s asked for and it’s a player he likes, it gets into that no-brainer territory.

“If he’s available and not that expensive and it’s someone the manager wants – you just do it.”

Conte has made his evaluation of his squad and is giving the powers above him an idea of the types of profiles to bring in. If he feels Amrabat is an adequate option to bring in, then Spurs should listen to that advice and go through with it.
