‘No butter and no bread’ – Pundit makes 2021 fitness claim about Harry Kane

Owen Hargreaves has insisted that Harry Kane did not look fit at the start of the season and credits Antonio Conte with turning the striker’s fitness around.

Kane has certainly been back to his best since Conte took over five and a half months ago after struggling for form under Nuno Espirito Santo earlier in the season.

Reports indicate that the striker is loving life under the Italian head coach and is set to snub a summer move to Manchester United as he believes Spurs can be genuinely competitive under the 52-year-old (The Mirror).

It was previously reported by The Athletic that Conte changed Kane’s training regime and the Tottenham striker’s diet when he arrived at the North London club, with the England captain said to be feeling ‘fitter than he thought possible’ as a result.

Hargreaves has said that the difference in Kane’s fitness levels are evident compared to the start of the season, following the changes brought in by the former Inter Milan boss.

The former Man Utd midfielder told Premier League Productions (16/04/22 at 11:40 am): “Don’t you think with Kane, he now looks fitter? At the start of the season, for me, he didn’t look fit.

“Now, with Conte, he doesn’t take any prisoners. It’s down to his management and training.

“With the Italian managers, everything is about intensity, isn’t it?! They want them to work hard and train hard. The diet.

“Fabio Capello came in at England, he took away all the sweets, no butter and no bread. And I am sure that’s going to be the exact same for Kane.”

Kane certainly looks a lot more nimble and fleet-footed than he did over the last couple of seasons. One can make the case that the striker has not been this mobile since 2017 and perhaps that has to do with Conte asking the 28-year-old to shed some muscle.
