‘No creativity from him’ – Bale’s former teammate critical of latest performance

Jermaine Jenas has admitted that he was not impressed with what he saw from Gareth Bale against Royal Antwerp yesterday evening as the Lilywhites fell to their first defeat in 11 games in all competitions.

Jose Mourinho insisted before the game that Bale’s physical condition was improving and that the Welshman is looking much sharper than he did a couple of weeks ago (Football.London).

However, there was no evidence of that against Antwerp as Bale looked off the pace and failed to create anything of note.

It was just the 31-year-old’s second start since his return to North London but on the evidence of yesterday, he still has plenty of work to do if he wants to push for a starting place at Spurs.

Bale was replaced by Harry Kane just before the hour mark as Mourinho’s men went in chase of an equaliser but they failed to create chances despite huffing and puffing in the second half.

Jenas was certainly not impressed with what he saw from his former Tottenham teammate.

The pundit said during BT Sport‘s live coverage of the game (as relayed by The Mirror): “Just shows you how desperate it has got in this second half for Tottenham to find something to get themselves going.

“They have got to bring on the main man (Harry Kane).

“Not a good night for Bale. Still trying to find a level of fitness. But there was no creativity from him tonight.”
