‘No evidence’ – Pundit claims media are unfairly building narrative that Conte is unhappy at Spurs

Simon Jordan has claimed the media are creating a narrative that Antonio Conte is unhappy at Tottenham.

Conte recently gave an interview with Sky Italia detailing his expectations at Spurs for the rest of the season after last month’s transfer window, which saw the club recruit Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur.

The Italian suggested that, despite bringing in the pair from Juventus, Spurs had actually weakened due to the exits of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Bryan Gil on deadline day.

The 52-year-old also gave an honest admission that the state of the squad at his disposal gives his side a ‘one per cent’ chance of finishing in the Champions League places come the end of the season (beIN SPORTS).

Conte’s comments caused concern over his mood in North London, leading to fears over his future at the club beyond this season (Daily Mail).

However, the Spurs boss came out yesterday to reveal that his quotes in the Italian interview were mistranslated, and he merely said Tottenham were numerically weakened in January but were now more complete with the two new signings (Football London).

Speaking before Conte’s correction, Jordan argued that the media are overstating Conte’s current emotions at Spurs, claiming a narrative of unhappiness has been ‘superimposed’ over his true views.

In hindsight, this appears to be accurate and something Conte himself alluded to in his press conference (Football London).

Jordan said on talkSPORT: “We’re [the media] taking his words and building a narrative which is Conte is not happy at Tottenham, Conte’s going to get turned over by Daniel Levy, he’s not going to get what he wants and there’s going to be Conte walking out the door in the summer.

“Then we take everything he says, ignore the language barrier, superimpose out interpretation over it with the underpinning narrative ‘Conte’s going to explode’. We’ve got no evidence of that.

“The narrative again has been built up that Conte is not going to stay the course and he’s going to be disappointed.”

Conte may not be completely happy with the current state of Tottenham, but it is near impossible to fix every problem in one transfer window, let alone in January.

The summer is truly the point at which we will see whether Daniel Levy is going to give Conte the support he needs, but for now he has to work with what he’s got at his disposal to register a strong end to the season.
