‘We will not sell’ – Club chief makes definitive statement on Spurs target’s future

Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro has insisted that rumoured Tottenham target Patrik Schick will not be leaving the club this summer.

Schick, who finished as the joint-highest goalscorer at the European Championship last summer, has been on fire in front of goal in the Bundesliga this season.

The centre-forward has scored 20 goals in as many league appearances (Transfermarkt) – second only to Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and four more than Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland (Bundesliga.com).

Tottenham were linked with a move for the Czech Republic international ahead of the January transfer window (90 min).

The 26-year-old reportedly continues to be on the Lilywhites’ radar ahead of the summer, with Antonio Conte’s men thought to be facing competition from the likes of Arsenal, West Ham and Everton for the centre-forward (Daily Mail).

However, Carro has now poured cold water over Tottenham’s pursuit of Schick by insisting that the striker is not going anywhere this summer.

The Leverkusen chief told Sky Germany (30/03/22 – as relayed by BuliNews): “No, we will not sell Patrik Schick. There is no need to talk about that at all.

“We are very happy that he is with us, and we firmly count on him for the next few years.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Given that Schick is contracted to Leverkusen until 2025 (Transfermarkt), it will take a substantial offer to tempt Leverkusen into selling him this summer. I do not think it would make sense for Spurs to spend that big on a player, who would likely only have a bit-part role in North London.
