No place for club legend on Tottenham’s coaching staff

Ledley King will not be part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s new-look coaching team at Tottenham Hotspur, according to journalist Dan Kilpatrick.

It was last August when Jose Mourinho officially appointed the former club captain as part of his backroom staff in the role of first-team assistant.

The former England defender made the step up to the Portuguese’s staff following the departure of former assistant coach and technical analyst Ricardo Formosinho.

King originally took up the role of club ambassador following his retirement in 2012, after 323 appearances for the North Londoners over a 13-year playing career at the club.

Kilpatrick has revealed that King will now revert back to his ambassadorial role while also working with the club in-house media team.

Nuno has instead appointed Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias to his backroom staff in the respective roles of assistant head coach, goalkeeper coach and fitness coach (Spurs official).

While it is in one way sad to see that Ledley no longer has a place on the coaching staff, it hopefully shows that Nuno is strong-minded enough to only have the people alongside him that he really wants, rather than giving a club legend a role to tick a box.
