‘No way’ – Paul Merson rubbishes Spurs’ chances of top three finish this season

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson has claimed that Chelsea will finish above Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League this season.

Tottenham head into today’s match against Liverpool five points better off than Chelsea, who host Arsenal at Stamford Bridge in the lunchtime kick-off.

Antonio Conte has had to deal with injuries to key players in recent weeks with Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevki and Cristian Romero among those who have been on the sidelines.

Chelsea have already parted company with one manager this season following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel and replaced him with Graham Potter, who saw his side thrashed 4-1 by his former club Brighton last weekend.

Merson told Sky Sports‘ Soccer Saturday as shown by Football Daily (04/11/22 – 12:00): “No way, I just think you’ll keep on getting away with keep on going to the well like they do. I just don’t see how they would finish third.

When asked by Clinton Morrison about who he believes will finish third in the table, Merson replied: “Chelsea will finish above Tottenham.”

Merson is naturally bitter when it comes to talking about Tottenham Hotspur, given his allegiance to Arsenal. For him to be so dismissive about Tottenham’s chances of finishing above Chelsea should be taken with a massive pinch of salt.

Merson has no idea about what Tottenham could potentially do in the transfer market in January, you only have to look back to last year when the signing of Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski transformed their season.
