Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan believes that Harry Kane is worth £140million.
Whelan believes that should Tottenham receive such an offer for their star forward, they should accept the money and give it to Jose Mourinho to bolster his squad with five new signings.
Spurs fans will be quick to remember that purchasing multiple players following the sale of a high profile player has not worked in the past when the fee received for Gareth Bale was spent on the likes of Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Vlad Chiriches.
Kane admitted in an Instagram interview with Jamie Redknapp that he would not rule out leaving the North London club if they fail to match his ambitions (Sky Sports).
The 26-year-old is yet to win a trophy during his senior career at Tottenham and has admitted that he wants to win trophies before his career comes to an end.
Whelan told Football Insider: “Spurs could not turn down the amount of money they would generate from selling Harry Kane,”
“Nobody wants to see their hero leave but they also understand that the best players have ambitions and your lifespan as a footballer is very short. Players like Kane make clubs special but you need other players around you doing their part.
“Daniel Levy is a shrewd businessman and he knows he will sell for well over £100million and he will invest that back into the field with five very good players. If Paul Pogba is worth £90million, Kane is worth £140million.
“You cannot hold back a player with that amount of ability because he only has five years left at the top.”
