‘None of them really deserve it’ – Pundit takes dig at Spurs, Arsenal and Man Utd in top four race

Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of a top-four finish have taken a significant blow after they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Brighton.

Spurs came into the fixture having scored at least twice in each of their past seven top-flight matches but were a shadow of their recent selves and failed to register a shot on target against the Seagulls.

Former Wimbledon midfielder Robbie Earle has claimed that none of Spurs, Arsenal and Manchester United deserve a place in the top four given the lack of consistency each team have shown.

Brighton’s win at Arsenal last weekend allowed Spurs to move back into the top four following victory at Aston Villa, however, the loss to Graham Potter’s side certainly is a spanner in the works for their hopes of returning to the Champions League.

Earle told NBC Sports: “In this race for fourth, Rebecca, it’s almost like, you look at the three teams.  You look at Arsenal, you look at Spurs, you look at Manchester United it’s almost like none of them really deserve it because none of them have shown the consistency which is required to playing Champions League football.”

It was a toothless performance from Spurs who never got started, Brighton dominated the midfield battle which saw Antonio Conte’s side struggle to create opportunities and failed to get runners in behind their defence.
