‘Normally I don’t’ – Arsenal star reveals why he reacted to Spurs star’s Instagram post

Gabriel Jesus has revealed that he was delighted to see Richarlison making it into Brazil’s World Cup squad, which is why he congratulated the Tottenham striker on social media.

Richarlison’s participation in the World Cup seemed to be in doubt when he picked up a calf injury in Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Eintracht Frankfurt last month, with the 25-year-old reportedly in tears after the game (Mirror).

However, the injury did not prove to be as serious as initially feared, with the former Everton man making a full recovery and even playing 69 minutes for Spurs in their 4-3 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

Richarlison had not yet returned from injury when Tite announced his 26-man squad for the World Cup last week but the Spurs star still made the final cut, and he and his family reacted jubilantly to the news. The forward posted a clip of his reaction to the squad announcement on Instagram, and Jesus commented on the post with: “You deserve too much.”

When asked about his comment, the Arsenal striker told Sky Sports: “Normally I don’t comment on photos of this kind, but I think Richarlison has been doing so good in the national team and he deserves a lot. Then I congratulated him.”

Jesus will also be part of the Brazilian squad for the tournament.

It was magnanimous of Jesus to congratulate Richarlison as it would have been him who took the Tottenham striker’s place had he not made it into the squad. Brazil certainly have an embarrassment of riches in the forward areas and will be difficult to stop in Qatar.
