‘Not a player for Conte’ – Agent plays down prospect of Spurs signing 29-year-old midfielder

Agent Vincenzo Morabito has claimed Tottenham will not target Roma midfielder Jordan Veretout as he believes the Frenchman is not a good fit for Antonio Conte’s squad.

Tuttosport (19/01/22 via Sport Witness) reported Spurs were keen on signing Veretout in the January transfer window as they attempted to bulk their squad up for the rest of the season.

But the 29-year-old stayed in Italy after former Spurs manager Jose Mourinho allegedly blocked the proposed move to north London (The Athletic).

However, Corriere dello Sport have since claimed Veretout has failed to reach an agreement on a new Roma contract, which could make him available on a free transfer.

Quizzed on the former Aston Villa man’s next move, Morabito dismissed Spurs as a potential destination as they have already invested heavily into Conte’s squad this summer.

Speaking to TMW Radio, Morabito said: “For me, he is not a player for Conte at Tottenham, who have already spent a lot.”

Spurs have brought in six new players so far ahead of the new season which includes Richarlison, Yves Bissouma and Djed Spence.

Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster were recruited as free transfers before Clement Lenglet was acquired on a season-long loan from Barcelona.

The Evening Standard have since reported Spurs could now shift their attention over to offloading unwanted players, with up to eight names listed for potential exits.

Tottenham have made plenty of acquisitions so far this summer and Fabio Paratici’s open style of conducting his business means the club will be linked with a lot of names.

Veretout was on the radar back in January but nothing much has cropped up since and given they currently have four central midfielders battling for position, it is no surprise that he is unlikely to be a target.
