‘Not a very good shot-stopper’ – Pundit claims Hugo Lloris has been ‘really poor for years’

Former Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Hugo Lloris has been ‘really poor for years’ and feels Tottenham should let him depart the club at the end of the season.

Lloris, 34, sees his current contract expire at the end of the campaign which could bring an end to a ten-year stint in North London.

Despite negotiations for a new deal not currently in progress, the Spurs keeper reiterated he was relaxed about his situation earlier this month.

Spurs are said to be bracing for the possible departure of the France international and have shortlisted a host of replacements, including Everton and England number one Jordan Pickford, West Brom stopper Sam Johnstone, and Manchester United’s Dean Henderson.

Ex-England striker Agbonlahor feels it is time for Spurs and Lloris to part ways at the end of the season and suggests Antonio Conte’s side should pursue a new stopper who will remain between the sticks for the long-term.

He told Football Insider: “Lloris, for me, has been really poor for years. He’s not a very good shot-stopper, he’s not very good with his feet as well. He’s getting on a bit as well.

“I’m sure he’ll be demanding a high wage. If I was Spurs I would let him go and bring in a keeper who can be there for the next 10 years.

“It makes sense, definitely.”

He is getting on a bit and he may not be the best ball-playing goalkeeper, but Lloris hasn’t exactly shown signs of slowing down. Spurs should at least test the waters with a new contract offer at some point, then it is up to Lloris whether it is time to move on or not.
