‘Not close’ – Mourinho provides update on Lo Celso and Reguilon ahead of West Ham clash

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he does not expect Sergio Reguilon to be fit for the clash against West Ham United on Sunday while Giovani Lo Celso is expected to be out for a few more weeks.

Reguilon has not played any football for over a month, with the left-back continuing to recover from a muscle injury.

Jose Mourinho admitted last week that the Spaniard has a chance of being available for the first-leg clash against Wolfsberger on Thursday but the former Real Madrid man did not recover in time to make the trip to Budapest.

The Spurs boss has now confirmed that he is likely to be unavailable for the all-important London derby on Sunday.

Lo Celso meanwhile has not played since the 2-0 loss to Leicester back in December as the Argentine continues to recover from a hamstring injury.

Mourinho confirmed that the midfielder is a few weeks away from returning.

“I don’t know. Not close,” he said to Football.London on Lo Celso. “I think Reguilon next week against Wolfsberger home match.

“Not Gio. No, no, no. Gio is still a few weeks away and of course we need him because he gives us lots of qualities and options and we’ve missed him for a long time.”

Lo Celso’s Tottenham career trajectory seems to be headed the same way as Erik Lamela’s. We saw last season how effective the 24-year-old can be when he has a run of games under his belt. Hopefully, he can put his injury issues behind him and have a strong end to the season when he returns.
