‘Not easy to adapt’ – Nuno opens up on why Ndombele was not in pre-season

Nuno Espirito Santo has hinted it has not been easy for Tanguy Ndombele to adapt to his new ideas and philosophy at Hotspur Way.

The Portuguese head coach took over at Spurs 44 days ago, although Ndombele also struggled for regular appearances under his past three bosses in Mason, Mourinho, and Pochettino.

The Frenchman was not seen in a single matchday squad throughout pre-season, despite the fact that Tottenham played five games.

Ndombele was spotted at the open training session at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, however, it appears that Nuno and his staff do not think he is quite ready for competitive action.

The Spurs head coach revealed it is about what he and his staff want and expect from their players, determining it has not been the right moment to add Ndombele into matchday squads.

Some reports have claimed that Ndombele is considering his future in North London this summer.

Nuno said (Charlie Eccleshare): “Always a reason in all the decisions we make, always a why. We think, we talk and then we decide. He didn’t perform in pre-season matches because we can see it’s not the right time for him to be in the group in terms of competition.”

He added (Charlie Eccleshare): “It’s about us deciding at the right moment to use the players available. We can see there are many aspects – what we want, what we think the player should do. It’s not easy to adapt to a new idea and philosophy.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

It is rather worrying that yet another manager seems to be having issues with Ndombele. At the end of the day, it appears to be a player problem and if Tanguy does not want to work hard, he simply will not make it in the Premier League.
