The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has opined that Tottenham Hotspur are undoubtedly the biggest winners of the January transfer window across the Premier League.
Spurs were one of the busiest clubs over the course of the month, managing to bring three players through the door while also offloading some of their deadwood.
The Lilywhites did most of their work early, strengthening two key positions by securing Timo Werner and Radu Dragusin within the first couple of weeks of the window while also managing to offload both Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris, who were evidently surplus to requirements for Ange Postecoglou.
Tottenham also ended the window with a bang, managing to swoop for Lucas Bergvall from under Barcelona’s nose (Matteo Moretto).
While the 18-year-old will perhaps not improve Spurs’ starting eleven straight away, he is allegedly seen by many, including the club’s technical director Johan Lange, as a potential future superstar (Football.London).

Did Tottenham win the January transfer window?
Edwards believes that Postecoglou’s men are now much stronger they were than they were at the start of January, naming them the ‘clear winners’ of the transfer window.
When asked why he thinks so, he told BBC Sport’s The Transfer Gossip Daily podcast: “I don’t even think it’s close, to be honest. Dragusin was their first choice target and they went and got him. They also beat Bayern Munich to him.
“I think Werner is a very, very interesting signing. He got a really good assist the other night as well. Good players in, players that filled a position and need. And quite frankly, in January, that’s about as well as you can do.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Most of Tottenham’s rivals could not strengthen their squad significantly in January due to fears of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
That has meant that while Spurs have improved, most other teams in the division have stood still, thus potentially setting up Postecoglou’s men for a strong finish to the season.
