Tottenham crashed out of the FA Cup last night after a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Mauricion Pochettino made several changes to the side that started the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final against Chelsea on Thursday with the likes of Kieran Trippier, Juan Foyth, Davinson Sanchez, Kyle Walker-Peters, Oliver Skipp, Lucas Moura and Georges-Kévin NKoudou all getting a start.
Tottenham put up a pretty poor first-half display as they struggled to keep hold of the ball and create chances.
Palace took full advantage of Spurs’ sloppiness and raced into a two-goal lead through a Connor Wickham tap-in and an Andros Townsend penalty.
Spurs had a chance to come back into the game after they were awarded a penalty of their own when Juan Foyth was caught in the Palace area. Kieran Trippier, however, shot wide of the target meaning that Spurs went into the interval with a two-goal deficit.
Spurs played much better in the second half after Pochettino bought on Erik Lamela to replace Jan Vertonghen and shifted to a back four. Tottenham prodded around the final third and tried to create openings but the home side defended astutely and repelled all the Spurs attacks.
It was a comfortable victory for Palace in the end. Spurs fans certainly weren’t happy with the team’s effort and some took to social media to voice their frustrations.
The fact that Eriksen was left at home and Sterling and Wanyama were brought on ahead of Winks and Rose gives you an indication of our priorities.
Like it or not Top Four is the brief.
Frustrating. #THFC #COYS #CRYTOT #FaCup

That first half was one of the worst Spurs displays I’ve seen in a while. Second was a lot, lot better (Lamela the catalyst) but by then the damage was already done. KWP’s idiotic error in giving away a penalty may cost him future opportunities. Foyth our best player overall.

#thfc not even attempting to hide their attempt to throw this competition now.

Adrien Rabiot? I’ll take Adrian Chiles at this rate.

If you seriously thought Tottenham had any chance of winning this game after the starting XI was announced may I ask what drugs you took before kick off?
