‘Open’ – Fabrizio Romano provides transfer update on Hojbjerg

Fabrizio Romano has said that as things stand, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is not close to sealing a move away from Tottenham Hotspur, with neither Napoli nor Juventus following through with their interest.

It has been widely reported over the past couple of months by various outlets that Spurs are listening to offers for Hojbjerg and that the midfielder has been told that he is free to find a new club (Football Insider).

Just last week, The Independent reiterated that Ange Postecoglou is keen on signing another midfielder this window, with the Dane being the player who is expected to make way for any new signing.

However, with Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma currently at the African Cup of Nations, and with Giovani Lo Celso and James Maddison out injured, the 28-year-old could have a key role to play over the coming weeks.

Hojbjerg is looking like he could stay at Spurs

Romano has now said that Hojbjerg, who played all 90 minutes in Tottenham’s 2-2 draw at Old Trafford on Sunday, is no closer to exiting the North London side at the moment.

The journalist said on the Here We Go Podcast: “We know the situation of Pierre-Hojbjerg is open. We heard many rumours from Italian clubs.

“But from what I’m hearing right now, it is not happening for Napoli and it is not happening for Juventus. That’s why for Tottenham, at the moment, it is still too early to say who is going to be their new midfielder.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Even if Hojbjerg does leave, Tottenham might not green-light the move until the final week of the window as Postecoglou would not want to risk leaving himself short in the central midfield area.

The Australian might be insisting on the club bringing a midfielder through the door before allowing the 28-year-old to depart.
