“Not happening” – Graham Roberts shoots down transfer suggestion

Tottenham Hotspur, who have already shattered their transfer record for Tanguy Ndombele (BBC), have also been linked with other big moves this summer (Mirror).

In contrast to Tottenham’s fast start and slow descent, Arsenal seem to only now be picking up speed in the transfer market.

So far, the Gunners have managed to sign William Saliba, who has been loaned back to Saint Etienne, and Dani Ceballos, who has arrived on a loan deal towards the end of the season (BBC).

However, Arsenal are now set to complete an astonishing £72 million deal for Lille winger Nicolas Pepe (BBC). This report surprised a lot of people as Arsenal were reported to have just £45m to spend this summer (Daily Mail).

Tottenham legend Graham Roberts took to social media to claim that Arsenal’s move for Pepe won’t come to fruition due to their financial crunch.

Roberts is wrong here as it looks like this deal is happening. That is probably because Arsenal are paying the transfer fee in instalments while Crystal Palace demanded a significant portion upfront for Zaha. However, Spurs fans certainly don’t need to panic as the Gunners still have holes to plug in defence and midfield.
