Tottenham Hotspur hit the headlines this summer for splashing the cash, but they are yet to showcase their quality on the pitch this season.
There was always going to be a lot more eyeballs on Spurs in the first few games of the campaign, given the money they spent during the summer window.
Tottenham added 10 new players to their squad, all of whom arrived from other Premier League clubs, and the hope was that they would be able to hit the ground running.
However, that has not proven true yet, with Spurs seemingly yet to gel as a team after wholesale changes this summer, with the club having just one point from their first three league matches.
Insider claims Tottenham do not have a goalscorer in their squad
Former Spurs scout Bryan King has blasted the club’s summer recruitment decisions, insisting that they have not bought in the quality that one would expect for a club spending huge amounts.
He opined that Tottenham simply do not have a top-class number nine in their squad, while also criticising Roberto De Zerbi’s selection and tactics.
King told Football Insider: “They’ve got the best facilities, the best pitch. It comes down to, in fact, again, they don’t seem to have the best players.
And if they think they’ve got the best players, they certainly haven’t got nowhere near a good team. People are playing out of position, they’re chopping and changing players around.
“For me, they still haven’t got an out-and-out class centre forward. They’ve got those three up front that cost £165m between them. They’ve just spent over £400m on new players. They ain’t scored a goal yet.
“They’ve got one point out of nine. Where does it lay? Well, for me, it lays in the recruitment. And by the look of it, it’s not much better on the coaching staff. For me, they’re not hungry enough.”
Spurs fans and the media are sleeping on Dominic Solanke
Many seem to forget that Tottenham paid £65m for Dominic Solanke on the back of a season where he scored 21 goals for Bournemouth.
In his first season at Spurs, the England international got 16 goals despite missing around three months of football with an injury.
The 28-year-old has shown that he is a very good penalty box finisher, and we know that De Zerbi is a fan, with the Tottenham boss describing Solanke as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.
The centre-forward’s biggest challenge is to remain fit through the season, and one would hope that with no European football and with Omar Marmoush to share the workload, the former Cherries star can avoid major injuries this season.
