‘Not in his best moment’ – Nuno vows to help player rediscover his best form at Spurs

Nuno Espirito Santo has admitted he will do all he can to help Dele Alli rediscover his form at Tottenham.

The 25-year-old started the season strongly under the Portuguese coach, after a turbulent campaign last time out under the management of Jose Mourinho.

He started all of Tottenham’s first six Premier League games, but has since lost his way following a dismal showing all round in the 3-1 defeat in the North London derby last month.

Spurs found themselves 3-0 behind within 35 minutes at the Emirates Stadium, which saw the midfielder hauled off at half-time after an opening period which saw him run ragged by the Gunners’ midfield.

He has not featured in the Premier League since that display and is facing the challenge of fighting his way back into Nuno’s league plans, after playing in Spurs’ defeat to Vitesse Arnhem in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.

Alli’s performance in the Netherlands was yet another where it was nothing to write home about, but Nuno has reiterated that it is his job to get the midfielder firing again.

He said (via the Daily Mail): “All the players in our squad, we have to realise that during their careers there are ups and downs. It is my job to try and make the best out of them, Dele included.

“I don’t look individually when I judge them, I am very fair. Dele started very well in the competition and now he is not in his best moment so it is up to us to get him back in the best moment he can.

“He is working hard, he’s committed, so we have to support and find the right solutions to give him confidence so we can have him back in the best way he can.”

It seems tough for Alli right now and he has a long way to go to get himself back into the line-up in the Premier League. He wasn’t alone with his display on Thursday, though, as the squad around him also failed to impress on the night.
