Paul Merson has claimed that Daniel Levy has ‘hardly ever’ let Tottenham down and believes the chairman will remain at the club for as long as he wants after securing the appointment of Antonio Conte.
Tottenham confirmed the 52-year-old would succeed Nuno Espirito Santo at the club on Tuesday, signing an 18-month deal with the option of a further year.
It comes at the second time of asking for Spurs after they chased Conte throughout the summer during the lengthy search for Jose Mourinho’s replacement.
It is quite the coup for Spurs and Levy, who is now under pressure to support and back the former Chelsea boss in his quest to end the club’s 13-year trophy drought.
However, the Italian’s appointment came in rather tough circumstances for the Spurs chief, who was present at Nuno’s final game in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United, which saw a chorus of boos ring around Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
But Arsenal icon Merson claims Levy’s position at Spurs is safe as houses especially after hiring Conte in the dugout and he believes he will be in his position for as long as he wants.
He told Sky Sports (November 2, 7:15 pm): “Daniel Levy will be there as long as he wants to be there. You have got to think where Tottenham were.
“It weren’t too long ago that we thought that they could win the league and were in the Champions League final. They are playing in one of the best stadiums in the world, if not the best.
“The club has moved on, it has. He’s not let that club down, hardly ever. [Antonio] Conte was a no-brainer. [Mauricio] Pochettino was a no-brainer.
“Sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. The Pochettino that was the one that hurt them.”

It was an unruly atmosphere against United and it essentially forced Levy’s hand in making a change. He and the club faffed around in the summer and ended up with a manager that was way down the list. He now has Conte, currently one of the best in the world, and a prime opportunity to turn things around.
