‘Not that far apart’ – Journalist issues update on Tottenham and Luis Diaz

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has suggested Tottenham and Porto are ‘not that far apart’ from agreeing on a deal for Colombian winger Luis Diaz.

Tottenham have entered talks with the Portuguese outfit to sign Diaz, having submitted a €45 million (£37.6m) bid plus performance-related add-ons for the 25-year-old on Tuesday (Pedro Sepulveda).

Spurs were reportedly knocked back with their initial attempt with Porto reiterating the need to up the bid to secure the electric winger, who boasts a £66 million release clause (The Guardian).

Sky Sports have since claimed that Spurs would be willing to bump up their offer to as high as €55 million (£46m) to secure a transfer ahead of next Monday’s deadline.

Solhekol has since confirmed Spurs do intend on raising the stakes while also hinting there is not much of a difference between both sides.

He told Sky Sports’ Transfer Show on Wednesday (02:37): “Portuguese sources have told us that Spurs are willing to pay €45m (£37m) for him plus €10m (£9m) in add-ons, so that is a total of €55m (£46m). Porto want about €60m (£50m), so the two clubs not that far apart.”

The interest for Diaz is alive and kicking as it should be after losing out on Adama Traore to Barcelona. It is obviously going to be a tough deal to complete with the expenses involves and the deadline looming, but players of this calibre are always going to require big amounts.
