‘Not true’ – Fabrizio Romano gives update on Tottenham pursuit of Franck Kessie

Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the future of Franck Kessie is still up in the air and has denied reports that Tottenham are close to reaching an agreement for the AC Milan midfielder.

Kessie’s current deal expires at the end of the season and reports have indicated that the Ivory Coast international is one of the players Conte has asked the Spurs hierarchy to bring in.

Gazzetta dello Sport (as relayed by GIFN) even claimed recently that Tottenham were ‘in advanced talks’ to land the Milan star, with the North London club ready to meet his salary demands of €8m (£6.8m) per season.

However, Romano has now dismissed those reports, insisting that nothing is decided regarding Kessie’s future.

The journalist said on his latest appearance on the Last Word On Spurs podcast (starting at 21:14) that while Spurs are interested in the 24-year-old, the North London club face competition from a whole host of clubs around Europe for the player.

Romano added that Kessie could still do a U-turn and put pen to paper on a contract extension with Milan.

However, he did state that Fabio Paratici knows the midfielder’s qualities well, with the Spurs managing director of football having previously tried to sign him from Atalanta before he moved to the San Siro.

One would certainly expect plenty of competition for Kessie as the midfielder represents a great market opportunity given his talent, age and contract situation. Hopefully, the arrival of Conte gives us the edge over others in the race for the 24-year-old.
