‘Nothing but praise for that man’ – Ben Davies loved working with divisive Spurs manager

Ben Davies has said that he loved his time working with Jose Mourinho even though the Portuguese coach did fall out with some of his teammates towards the end of his time at the club.

Mourinho had a hard act to follow in Mauricio Pochettino, who had taken Tottenham extremely close to winning both the Premier League title and the Champions League trophy, and was a very popular figure among both the fans and the players.

The former Chelsea boss did reasonably in his first 12 months in charge of the Lilywhites, with the team picking up results, even though the football was a difficult watch at times.

It did not take long for the wheels to come off once the results fell off and it was widely reported that the 61-year-old had lost much of the dressing room towards the end of his time at Tottenham (The Athletic).

Ben Davies was a big fan of Mourinho

However, Davies confessed that the recently departed Roma boss was a favourite of his.

The defender told The Gabs and Jules Show about Mourinho: “I have nothing but praise for that man. I probably don’t speak for everyone, because we do know he has fallen out with people over time, but for me, from a personal point of view, I loved him.”

The Welshman also narrated a funny anecdote, revealing that the players were making themselves look bigger when Mourinho first arrived at the club since they knew he liked physically stronger players.

The 30-year-old remarked: “We obviously knew he played more physically, so we had guys completely nervous about their size, like let me put a rain jacket on so he thinks I’m bigger.”
