‘Now he is in the squad’ – Conte hints at Bryan Gil’s status at Spurs this season

Antonio Conte has hinted that Bryan Gil could stay at Tottenham despite reports indicating that the winger will be loaned out again by the North London club.

Gil spent the second half of last season on loan at Valencia and Tribuna Deportiva journalist Hector Gomez revealed earlier this week that the Spanish club were in ‘advanced negotiations’ to re-sign the winger on loan.

Fabrizio Romano also took to Twitter on Thursday to back up Valencia’s interest in bringing the 21-year-old back to the Mestalla but added that Spurs are yet to give a green light for the move.

Meanwhile, reports have indicated that Tottenham are on the lookout for another attacking addition before the transfer window closes (Evening Standard), with the likes of AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo (Calciomeracato) and Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta (Football.London) being mooted as potential targets.

However, when asked in his press conference on Friday if Spurs need another attacker in order to have two players for each of the forward positions, Conte named Gil as one of the options he could use.

The Spurs head coach told Football.London: “In our squad, I am very happy because I repeat compared to last season we improve our squad with Richi up front, but don’t forget we lost Bergwijn.

“Then Gil last season went on loan and now he is in the squad in this 20 players. I think as a midfield, we improved with Bissouma and with Winks also and then with Lenglet behind.

“I think we sign players with common sense to find players with the right characteristics to help us to improve the quality and to have players reliable and ready to have a good impact, not an impact so and so if I have to call them to play.”

With the World Cup coming up in November, I am sure Gil would be pushing for a loan move as he would want to play regularly to give himself the best chance of making Spain’s squad.
