On the back an unconvincing draw against Watford, Tottenham desperately needed a win against Red Star Belgrade to restore some confidence. Additionally, failing to win this evening would have put Spurs in a perilous position in the Group B of the Champions League.
What Mauricio Pochettino’s men delivered was not just a convincing win but also a near-flawless performance.
The Argentine unsurprisingly made several changes to the side with the likes of Ben Davies, Erik Lamela, and Son Heung-min coming in, while Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld were not even part of the match day squad.
The Lilywhites dominated right from the start as the visitors struggled to get a foothold in the game. It has been a while since Spurs fans had seen a aggressive and free-flowing brand of football and some fans on social media were delighted with what they saw.
The team pressed high up the pitch and played with a high tempo which was reminiscent of what we did a couple of years ago.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to the performance:
One 5-0 this week down, one more 5-0 to go

Nice to see us playing with freedom of 4231. A proper left back helped. Lamela, Dele, Son and Kane all brilliant #COYS

I’d stick with this formation & this team for now. No need to change it up after a performance like tonight. Appreciate it wasn’t against world beaters, but it’s much better than some of the dross we’ve seen so far this season.

Regardless of the opposition that was exactly what the doctor ordered.
I hope Pochettino does not tinker too much with that starting XI for Sunday as a lot of those players warrant their place in the side.

The movement across our front 4 tonight was absolutely incredible. Kane proving he’s the most complete striker in world football and Son and Lamela both created countless chances. Surely Poch has to see the 4-2-3-1 is the way to go

People think Harry Kane isn’t elite lol

Now play like that more often

Spurs Web Opinion
While the quality of the opposition clearly wasn’t of a high standard, the attitude and application that the players showed suggested that they are determined to turn their form around. There were several brilliant displays all over the pitch. This dominating display will hopefully help the team finally turn the curve and build some momentum.
