‘Now to think’ – Player leaves Spurs future up in the air with end-of-season message

Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso has said he will spend some time thinking about his future after seeing his loan at Villarreal come to an end.

Lo Celso joined the LaLiga side on loan in the January transfer window to see out the rest of the campaign after falling down the Spurs pecking order.

The 26-year-old featured regularly for the Yellow Submarine and played a big role in the club’s road to the semi-final of the Champions League.

Villarreal are thought to be keen on keeping Lo Celso in preparation for next season (Football Insider) but, as it stands, he is set to return to Tottenham upon the formal conclusion of the loan deal.

Now the season has ended, the Argentina international reflected on his time in Spain while also suggesting that he will give thought to the next step of his career.

He wrote on Twitter: “Closing another season… Qualifying for Europe in a very difficult stadium. Champions League semis being very close to the goal… Thanks for the support of the usual! Now to think about what’s to come.”

Lo Celso joined Tottenham on an initial loan in the summer of 2019 before he was signed permanently for a total of more than £42 million six months later (Evening Standard).

Although showcasing some promising displays in his first season, much of his time in North London has been hampered by various injuries which have stunted his progression.

Spurs Web Opinion

Lo Celso appears to have done well during his time at Villarreal and he featured in almost all of their games without picking up any injuries.

Depending on what Antonio Conte’s plans are, it is hard to see where he fits in when he returns to Tottenham – especially with the midfield looking pretty set as it is.

The summer transfer window will be the chance to cash in on him if they do not plan to keep him, but the next issue is finding a club that can afford the expenses.
