Nuno Espirito Santo reveals why he made no substitutions against Newcastle

Tottenham Hotspur head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo has revealed exactly why he decided not to make any substitutions against Newcastle United this evening.

In the end, Spurs won the match 3-2, perhaps making an argument that Nuno got his tactics spot-on as he managed to record all three points.

However, Tottenham did concede late on, making for a nervy final few moments where time-wasting changes may have been handy.

Nuno also had a number of players out there who had recently returned from international duty in faraway countries, such as Emerson Royal, Cristian Romero and Heung-min Son.

Despite this, the former Wolves boss decided against resting legs before the 90-minute whistle because he believed his side were controlling the game as it was.

He also revealed that he thought it was best for the travelling stars to get 90 minutes in the tank, perhaps for fitness reasons.

When asked about his lack of subs, Nuno said (Football London): “The idea was clear I think. We were controlling the game really well and I believe that with all the international break disruption, the more time the players have on the pitch I believe that it’s better for them.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

3-1 up with 20 or 15 minutes to go, Nuno should have made a couple of subs to freshen things up. The likes of Steven Bergwijn and Bryan Gil would have been good to see the game out. You also have to give people a chance to impress from the bench.
