Nuno explains why Hugo Lloris was missing against Chelsea

Nuno Espirito Santo handed a first appearance to Pierluigi Gollini this evening in Tottenham’s pre-season fixture against Chelsea.

Supporters were left wondering over the whereabouts of club captain Hugo Lloris after he was not included in the squad, with Alfie Whiteman selected to provide coverage on the bench.

The Spurs head coach revealed after the 2-2 draw that the keeper missed the trip to Stamford Bridge after picking up a ‘small problem’ while on international duty with France at Euro 2020.

The World Cup winner was included on the bench for Spurs’ previous fixture against MK Dons, but was not required to be called upon with Whiteman playing the full 90 minutes.

Lloris has been spotted in pre-season training with Spurs following his return to the club, but has not been risked in a match situation.

Charlie Eccleshare, who was part of the post-match press conference revealed what Nuno had to say about the World Cup winner.
